The measurement

It shows its work.

Every measurement produces a magnitude trace, a delay estimate and a confidence figure. The proposed filters are listed individually — you tick what gets applied. Nothing is written to the signal path silently.

Swept sine, not pink noise

An exponential sweep is deconvolved into an impulse response. That separates harmonic distortion out of the result and gives you arrival times — which pink-noise RTA cannot. Time information is what makes sub-to-top alignment possible at all.

It tells you when not to EQ

Each measurement gets a confidence score from signal-to-noise ratio, noise floor, run-to-run consistency and alignment agreement. Below the threshold AURIX refuses to generate filters instead of correcting noise. A dip caused by a reflection is not an EQ problem, and no EQ fixes it.

Time alignment you can check

Sub-to-top delay comes from GCC-PHAT cross-correlation across several runs, with automatic polarity detection. You get the delay in milliseconds and the equivalent distance, plus how confident the result is.

How it works

Four steps, about ten minutes.

  1. Connect your mic

    Any measurement mic on your interface. Pick your model — there are calibration profiles for common ones, including the Pioneer APM7008.

  2. Run the sweep

    AURIX sets the measurement level itself from the mic headroom and noise floor, then sweeps subs and tops separately. Multiple mic positions get power-averaged.

  3. Review what it found

    Frequency response, proposed EQ bands, delay, polarity, crossover point, RT60 and the confidence score. Every item has its own checkbox.

  4. Apply and play

    Your audio runs through AURIX as the output device. Save the setup per venue and recall it later.

Levelizer

A ceiling that holds.

The Levelizer is a brickwall peak limiter on the master output. Its threshold is derived from the SPL calibration taken during measurement — so you set a maximum level in dB SPL, not in dBFS, and the system stays under it.

The threshold comes straight from the SPL calibration of the last measurement, and follows it automatically when you re-measure.

The honest part

Be sceptical.

Everyone who has tuned a system has seen auto-EQ make things worse. Here is what AURIX does about each of the usual failure modes — and where it cannot help.

Auto-EQ boosts cancellation nulls and wastes headroom.

AURIX weights cuts over boosts, protects the low end from boost, and excludes narrow dips it identifies as cancellation rather than response. A null from a reflection or from sub-to-top interference is a geometry problem — the fix is moving a box or correcting the delay, and the software says so instead of pouring power into it.

A measurement mic in one spot does not represent the room.

That is correct, which is why single-position measurement is not the default. Several positions get power-averaged with variance weighting, and you get a figure for how consistent the coverage was. If the positions disagree strongly, that is reported rather than averaged away.

It will flatten the response and the system will sound dead.

The target is not a flat line. There is a tilted target curve for music and a separate one for speech, with frequency-dependent smoothing so broad tonal problems get corrected and narrow measurement artefacts do not.

I do not want a laptop in my signal path.

Fair. AURIX runs the audio through your interface, so a crash or a Windows update is a real risk on a show. Use it to measure and tune, then keep the laptop out of the path for the gig if that is your preference — or run it on a machine that does nothing else.

How do I know the measurement is right?

Check it. Measure the same system in REW or Smaart and compare. The parameters are on screen, so the comparison is a fair one. If our result disagrees with a tool you trust, we want to hear about it.

What happens when it is not sure?

It stops. The confidence score gates filter generation: below the threshold AURIX declines to propose EQ and tells you what was wrong — level too low, noise floor too high, runs inconsistent. An auto-EQ that always produces an answer is the one to distrust.

AURIX is built by Tim Luis Techert in Germany. Every release is documented in the public changelog, and support goes to the person who wrote the code. What exactly do I need besides the software?

A measurement microphone and an audio interface to plug it into. The mic is not included. Calibration profiles for common measurement mics are built in, including the Pioneer APM7008.

Does my audio have to run through the laptop?

For AURIX to process the signal, yes — it acts as the output device. If you only want to measure and work out settings, you can use it to get the values and then enter them into whatever processor you already own.

How many computers can I use it on?

Three activations per licence. You can release a device in your account at any time, so replacing a laptop is not a problem.

What happens after the trial ends?

Measurement and Auto-EQ keep working so you can carry on evaluating; saving and recalling setups is disabled until you buy. Nothing is deleted, and after purchase everything continues where it left off.

Do I need to be online?

Only for activation. After that the licence is verified locally, so the software keeps working without a connection and checks in when it can.

Is there a macOS version?

No. AURIX is Windows 10/11 only and there is no macOS build planned for now. The iPad app is a remote for the Windows machine, not a standalone version.

Can I get my money back?

Does the Levelizer make me legally compliant?

No, and we will not claim it does. It caps the level you set and is calibrated against the measurement. Regulations such as DIN 15905-5 or the Swiss V-NISSG require an integrated Leq measurement over a defined window plus documentation, and permits can require a sealed limiter set by an approved body. AURIX does neither yet. Level logging with a signed protocol is on the roadmap.
